Safe Space  "Mach Dharma" 2018 US Prog Hard Rock

Safe Space explores the human condition in the modern age. Lyrics are written through the eyes of different characters, offering an aggressive yet mindful perspective. The band cites influences such as Tool, Alice in Chains and Rage Against the Machine….~

When one thinks of America’s favorite pastimes, a few immediately come to mind; baseball, hot dogs, bald eagles, beer, scandalously dressed women in big truck commercials, more beer and Rock ’n’ Roll. Another pastime is blaming immigrants for everything that’s wrong with the country. And now Americans have one more thing to bitch about, Mach Dharma, a hard rock band with immigrant flavor based in New York City.

Mach Dharma’s music is as diverse as their backgrounds. Gill Alexandre was born in Brazil and moved to Queens, NY at the wee age of one. Andrés Castro, born in Manhattan and raised in Queens, is a Colombian and Ecuadorian mix. Khaled Dajani was born in Saudi Arabia to Palestinian parents that sent him to the U.S. at the age of sixteen. Karim Douaidy was born in France to Lebanese and Syrian parents. He moved to the U.S. when he was twenty years old. After successfully crossing the border, the handsome bunch found each other in New York City in 2016 and connected over their mutual ambition for bringing back what they think is missing from the rock music scene. They promptly began working on their self-expression with their debut album, Safe Space.

Writing music as a band comes with its own set of unique challenges, which most do not survive. Like most Americans, these guys did not agree on everything. No detail was left unturned and no curse word left unsaid. During production of the album, one of the members was diagnosed with cancer placing a tremendous physical and mental obstacle in their way. That did not stop them from pressing on, making them even more focused and determined. They continue to overcome as a team. 2018 saw the completion of their first album, which they produced, and music video, which they shot entirely on a Samsung Galaxy Android device. Yet another testament to immigrant resourcefulness.

Safe Space, their debut album, explores the human condition in the modern age. Song lyrics are written through the eyes of different characters, offering an aggressive yet mindful perspective. The band cites influences such as Tool, Alice in Chains and Rage Against the Machine. Basically, all of Satan’s favorite bands.

For rock fans seeking a fresh modern sound with a little spice, Mach Dharma has the secret sauce. These four self-proclaimed “brown dudes” plan on infiltrating the scene and bringing their vibes to the masses. Safe Space is available everywhere and anywhere you have internet on 05/11/2018….~

"We are together again" is the only album of the American group that arose on the fragments of the American prog group JASPER WRATH.
When JASPER WRATH collapsed, the three musicians decided to stick together.
They were called James Christian - vocals, guitar, bass guitarist Phil Stone and keyboardist Jeff Butler, later replaced by Jerry Greene.
The last to add a drummer Richie Catalano.
The band enjoyed steady popularity, playing both their material at the concerts and the old JASPER WRATH fighters.
EYES did not really bother with the studio work, preferring live performances, which, by the way, brought the group a steady income.
The band broke up in 1986, when James Christian received an offer from Greg Giuffria to form HOUSE OF LORDS.
Have a nice listening!

Totr “Rock n’ Roll Side” 2011  Russian Classic Hard Rock
Totr - Rock'n'Roll Side (official video)

“There are not many on the Russian independent scene of collectives that have the energy, time and everything else to record and release a full-fledged album, and even fewer such bands, whose releases are really expected, are long and impatient. A little more than two years ago, TOTR, which by that time had already performed at almost all venues in the capital, produced the eponymous EP.The explosive mixture of modernized hard rock and psychedelic stoner turned out to be catastrophically small and the indie community held its breath in Waiting was a long two years.

The debut album TOTR carries the symbolic name Rock'n'Roll Side, and, dammit, it completely justifies itself. Because it is written by people who do not go by the road, beaten by hundreds of identical template groups, but stubbornly move along their twisty, complex path, people who believe in the magic of real rock'n'roll. "Even when mankind dies out, guitar riffs will sound in their super-modern, built-in players in the brain,” says frontman Yevgeny Chertolyas. TOTR go to the principle. Rock'n'Roll Side was recorded using vintage equipment - from microphones and guitars from the 60s to the 70s to the console of information from the same era. However, the recorded material does not sound like a bearded echo from the past or an attempt to blindly copy Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. This is the new music of the new era, played dashingly, fervently and wisely. The album is heard in one breath, as something completely new for Russia, to which only now the trend of rock rivayvala. It’s a trip album that brings you to another reality, where the melodious key-shifts and nervous guitar riffs miraculously mix, swift and all-absorbing like a hurricane over a red-hot desert. “….Totr….~

Megaton “Megaton” 1971 UK ultra rare UK Hard Prog
full vk
rare single

2008 release, the first official CD release of this rare album, originally released on the Deram label in 1971. a thrilling, no-hold’s-barred, Heavy Rock treatment of a clutch of riff-based but fairly commercial Pop tunes, Megaton’s sole album has plenty of admirers these days. For Megaton is the creative inspiration of vocal harmony leader Les Humphries (as in the Les Humphries Singers, big hit makers in early 70’s Germany) and his writing partner/right hand LHS man, Jimmy Bilsbury. Perhaps having the likes of future Uriah Heep vocalist John Lawton in the midst of the LHS was an inspiration, but whatever, Humphries nose for a commercial opportunity sniffed out the Free, Led Zep Hard Rock/Blues Rock market and he duly delivered. RPM……~

“Megaton” is poorly known and underrated one album wonder of famous Les Humphries (better known in continental Europe as frontman of pop outfit Les Humphries Singers Best of Les Humphries Singers]).
“Megaton” was strictly sudio project, vintage hard’ n heavy of the 70s, “manufactured” by Les Humphries himself and Jimmy Bilsbury, while the icon of Euro-pop orchestras, James Last, patronized as producer. Apart from borrowing from Rolling Stones (“Out of Your Own Little World”) and unashamefully stealing from Led Zeppelin (“Niagara”), “Megaton” unexpectedly came with decent original tunes - heavy and menacing “Fairy Tale Song” is a true hard rock gem. Hard rock tracks are testily backed by gospel-inspired unison singing and excellent piano work. As I said, the whole album is as heavy as they used to be in the 70s (apart from popyish ballad “Life Was Easy Yesterday”).
Les Humphries was a seasoned singer and pianist with Royal Marines Corps Band in Germany, and after been discharged in 1965, he returned to UK, and ventured into pop. His first group, “Summer Set” became mildly successful. Minor achievements of various incarnations of Les Humphries’ acts are irrelevant, except the fact that as of 1968 (back to Hamburg again) he closely co-operated with oustanding German rock-guitarist Achim Reichel ([[ASIN:B000GFKUGI Volxlieder, for example), and in 1969 started his own band - “Les Humphries Singers” (John Lawton of “Lucifer’s Friend” fame - Lucifer’s Firend- was an associate for a while). In any case, Les Humphries Singers were peddling around their pop tunes in the continent for quite a long time and even made it to 1976 Eurovision (an achievement or a disgrace?) before vanishing into obscurity. In Britain and USA “Singers” were almost completely ignored, but were popular enought behind Iron Curtain.
“Megaton” re-issue by “Cherry Red” comes together with an excellent leaflet and is strongly recommended for those about hard rock of the 70s…by…..Golovanov Alexey….~

Originally released in 1970 killer driving UK progressive with keyboards, superb guitars, and original UK copies goes for stupid money! Underrated cool album with lengthy tracks and well-crafted songs. Groovy psychedelic DJ’s must look at this album! Remastered 180 gram vinyl shrink wrapped…….~

A thrilling, no-holds-barred, heavy rock treatment of a clutch of riff-based but fairly commercial pop tunes, Megaton'ssole album has plenty of admirers these days. Perhaps this should be a rock label staple, but the LPs origins are more pop than that with more akin to those ranks of over looked production library classics recorded for one purpose and taking on a different guise and importance to collectors years later.

One of the rarest Decca albums gets a legit release. Megaton was a one-off hard rock exploitation album recorded by Les Humphries and JImmy Bilsbury with unknown musicians in tow. Apparently Humphries and Bilsbury have a bit of a history in the European music scene - and not in a good way. They hit on success right after this album with The Les Humphries Singers. They seemed to dabble in different genres looking for a hit. Megaton was one of those projects. Its a curious affair that is obviously influenced by Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Don’t know who the singer is but he’s pretty damn good! “Wanna Be A Hero” features a cool Iommi style riff with a neat flute solo laid on top.

Although the tracks aren’t particularly long they do feature some killer guitar work and soulful “my woman don’t understand” vocals. This is one to consider alongside Human Beast, Head Machine, Incredible Hog - although not quite of that caliber. Great liner notes spill the beans on the whole story of Humphries/Bilsbury. File under: Guilty Pleasure…..~

Willow Child - Starry Road (Official Video)

Willow Child from Greater Erlangen / Bavaria (pardon: Franken) surfaced on the retro-rock scene last year with their debut EP. Framed by singer / guitarist Eva, the quintet is one of the more interesting new additions to the sector, complementing the traditional rock trademarks of recent decades with modern highlights. Already in the opener “Little Owl” two things stand out, which are here in the direct comparison with some genre colleagues a clear presence attached. The crystal-clear, unaffected voice of the singer and the booming, the typical retro touch-generating organ. You can do it the way you want, it’s actually the kind of music that would have been used in the 1970s to pull off any sausage (vegan cashew cheese today). At first glance I feel pleasantly reminiscent of middle-aged Deep Purple and early Graveyard. The offensively proggige “Eirene” shows the compositional and artisanal abilities of the band and captivates by a cool blues list page. Hymnic and sweeping, partly polyphonic songs, sometimes solo licks, but never too intrusive. Above all, the chorus finally rocks to the clearest accent of the song, which starts early to get stuck in the auditory canals. “Land Of Sloe” shines through a startling bass, the bluesy parts are expanded and enriched with soulful bonds. In order to be able to keep the singer’s voice in the foreground, the music has been reduced a little, which on the other hand also leads to slight pressure losses, but still in a hardly criticized area.
What might just have been lacking in pressure, will immediately be made up for again with “Starry Road”! Here rules the astreins 70s-prog, which stands the Franken very well to face. The voice gains strength and liveliness and the whole package is suddenly much more transparent. The quality does not go down in “Beyond The Blue Fields” and “Red Wood”! Solid, sophisticated rock songs with great organ parts and varied, soulful and again rockier parts. Although there are no unique selling points in the music, that does not have to be the case. Ultimately, this is exactly what you expect when you buy a vintage rock album, and in good quality. “Mayflies” in turn is the absolute blast! An eternal Egret, progressive rock that would have been suspected right away in the seventh decade, most likely on the big European island. Memories of greats like King Crimson are awakening, slightly psychedelic Canterbury proportions flash, the atmosphere is dreary and certainly purplishly purple. The final “Unspoken” begins as a fine guitar ballad, with of course refined by fine vocals and is towards the end again to an official rocker……~

Willow Child establish a powerful symbiosis of vivid arrangements and intense lyrics. The quintet based around Nuremberg plays warm blues rock fueled by impelling hard rock riffs and psychedelic instrumental outbursts. Floating guitar licks, thrilling organ grooves and occult vibes are joined together by a rich songwriting. Willow Child’s debut album „Paradise & Nadir“ opens the door to a mystic cosmos!…..~

I know it’s not exactly unheard of, but I think it’s interesting that what first brought German classic-style, organ-inclusive heavy rockers Willow Child together wasn’t the impulse to immediately create something of their own, but to pay homage to their heroes of the late ’60s and early ’70s. They were a cover band. A lot of people slag off tribute acts — not me. If you can get together with your friends for a night, play songs you love in some bar that’s probably going to give you at least like $300 for the effort? I’ve been on the other end of that — playing original material to nobody for no money — and it’s not exactly always a blast. That romance? It fades. So yeah, cover bands. I get it.
Something tells me, however, that even playing original material, Willow Child aren’t going to have any trouble drawing an audience. The five-piece released their debut EP, Trip Down Memory Lane, last year and you’ll find it streaming at the bottom of this post. Later in 2018, they’ll follow up with their first long-player, Paradise and Nadir, which will be out thanks to the estimable tastes of StoneFree Records, who announced the alliance thusly:
StoneFree Records is more than proud to announce the signing of Willow Child.
After listening to their very promising „Trip Down Memory Lane EP“ in February 2017 we kept in touch and forged out plans concerning a future release.
Now the time has come! BIG TIME!
Willow Child recorded their debut album „Paradise & Nadir“ with Richard Behrens at Big Snuff Studio Berlin in January 2018. The result sounds stunning and will go places for sure. We’ll keep you posted about the release details pretty soon!
The band was started 2014 under the name of “Trip Down Memory Lane” and firstly covered old classics from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Doors and many more. But in late 2015 they began to write their own songs and somehow got stuck with it.
Willow Child’s debut album „Paradise & Nadir“ opens the door to a mystic cosmos….the obelisk….~

“ Paradise & Nadir ” is a title with the widest possible connotation. After the six-song EP “Trip Down Memory Lane” WILLOW CHILD from Bavaria, however, submit a very homogeneous first album on their own, with which they suddenly place themselves in the upper third of the (German) vintage rock scene.
The Nürnberger stand out not a few international competitors, both scribal and playful. Apart from the fact that the rhythm section in straightforward as tricky moments perfectly “delivers”, Flo Ryan (Limestone Whale, also on the shopping list, please) proves once again as imaginative as finger-ready lead-clapper, the events often together with organist Jonas Hartmann dominated. So what’s so wonderful that the epic ‘Beyond The Blue Fields’ is less reminiscent of 'Out In The Fields’ by Gary Moore than reminiscent of a midtempo number from Deep Purple’s 'Fireball’, especially because of his extravagant improvisational part?
The sibling company - singer Eva Kohl’s brother David swings an often very “blue” Rhythmusklampfe - sounds in all traditional love but not anachronistic, because song structures like those of the proggy 'Mayflies’ radiate something quite contemporary by their noticeable goal-directedness. WILLOW CHILD do not muddle along disoriented, but come to the point in a comprehensible way, albeit occasionally in a roundabout way.
This proves even before all the other songs of the album the rattling video track 'Starry Road’, which in its zockenden kind actually think of a journey into the distance, whereas the longest piece 'Little Owl’ can be understood as a contrast point to it.
The quintet, thanks to producer Richard Behrens (Heat, ex-Samsara Blues Experiment), wows in a wonderfully warm, well-balanced sound, which brings out the many small details that the members came up with, be it subtle reef variations or softly played single tones subtly subordinate the song motifs.
In short: “ Paradise & Nadir ” is material for the Freak Valley, Desert Fest and what they are called…..by…..Andreas Schiffmann….~

Can a record be like a good book? - Willow Child succeeds in her debut “Paradise & Nadir” a natural combination of exciting arrangements with metaphor-rich lyrics. The musical basis of the quintet around singer Eva Kohl is warm and psychedelic Blues Rock, which is colored by the sometimes melancholy dreamy, partly euphorically driven basic moods of the songs again and again. With their debut album “Paradise & Nadir”, Willow Child open the door to a mystical cosmos, in which the listener not only thematically, but also due to the rousing and catchy song structures can be found.
Lizardmen - The murky Lower Saxony produces its own musical drugs - a cocktail of sadness and pent-up anger, bedded in rock music, whose rhythms you can only escape if you cut off your ears. Their intros lurk like carnivores in the undergrowth, you never know when the attack will come.
Midnight Steamer - A 4-headed Rock 'n Roll combo from Nuremberg, strongly influenced by the golden era of classic rock - but more than a cold retro infusion at the same time. - Midnight steamer bring energy, playfulness and a warm, honest sound. ….~
