Chico Buarque’s fourth album released in 1968, Chico Buarque by Hollanda vol.3 is classic and does a lot in the Ballade sweet (Samba Cançao). Much less original than the first two Chico Buarque De Hollanda (1966) and Chico Buarque Hollanda vol2 (1967), it nevertheless presents some good surprises or curiosities with the two classic “Carolina” e “Funeral De Um Lavrador”. Chico’s sister sings in duet with her brother on the Bossa Nova track “Sem Fantasia”, and it should be noted the presence of Vinicius de Moraes guitarist and comedian, Toquinho, on “Desencontro”. “Vida Roda”, despite the vocal presence of the MPB-4 group, which some critics call “corny”, is a good song that was ranked third at the third popular festival of Brazilian music. “The song” Funeral De Um Lavrador “is a slow, tragic chant, where the poet describes the burial of a poor wretch whose only good is the pit in which he rests on the land of the great landowner. sometimes, it seems like brazilians are not singing, they are whispering loudly, gently, lulling you into a sense of security. beautiful clear voice.
“ retrato em branco e preto ”, sublime, “desencontro ” has incredible harmonizing by i don’t know who, but his voice gently lifts and then intermingles and amplifies chico’s voice to the quitest of storms, like a serious sunshower. the arrangements and the expert and varied background voices are what really help to elevate this album in my ears. this may be my favorite pre “70’s buarque. ” roda viva", oh yeah, this is definitely my favorite “60’s chico..by..sirreal ….~
