Koichi Oki  "Yamaha Superstar!“ 1971 Japan Jazz Funk Electronic
full vk
https://vk.com/wall-59990730_94

Japanese Organ maestro Koichi Oki, includes groovy versions of ‘Light My Fire’, 'Look of Love’ and a version of 'Spinning Wheel’ with fuzz guitar, plus drum break on one track. ….~

Liner Notes:
Koichi Oki The tracks on this album “Yamaha Superstar” were specially created for the Yamaha EX42 by Koichi Oki, the world’s leading Yamaha Electone player.
On this album Koichi Oki uses many of the sounds which are exclusive to the Yamaha Electone and which are revolutionizing the field of electronic organ sounds.
The first Yamaha organs—seventy-eight reed organs—to be exported to Britain were shipped in 1892 only five years after Torakusu Yamaha built Japan’s very first prototype. Since that time the company, renamed Nippon Gakki Co. Ltd., has gone from strength to strength and while its musical instruments have steadily improved in range and excellence, it has also diversified into many other fields. Not so long ago, after all, the name “Yamaha” in Britain meant motor cycles and not musical instruments at all. Had our climate been other than it is we should know the name for its sno-cats and and skis made of the revolutionary new Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic, while boats and archery equipment of the same material obviously have a great future here.
It is, however, in the sphere of music that the Company’s greatest efforts have been expended and here is to he found its greatest achievement.
In the organ field Yamaha have scored many “firsts”, most notable being their revolutionary flat speaker based on the principle of a piano soundboard. It is to this speaker which enables the sound of the organ to travel across its surface that the Yamaha “Natural Sound” must be attributed.
Turning to the EX42, the scope of the organ is such that it gives ample expression to any type of playing from popular melodies, so ably demonstrated by Koichi Oki, to classical.
No other organ in the world has Yamaha’s exclusive “Touch Response” combined with the again exclusive “Touch Vibrato” which, for the first time, enables an organist fully to express mood and to translate the force in his fingers into volume and tone colour.
Koichi Oki recorded for AD-RHYTHM Records, London by courtesy of YAMAHA FOUNDATION FOR MUSIC EDUCATION, Japan…..~

Octávio Burnier  "Dança Infernal “ 1979 Brazil  Latin Jazz Fusion

"It’s very common for us to turn on the radio, listen to a song, like it or not, listen to another and another, without any idea of the work that exists behind this execution, of the care and dedication that this work demands for a good result. It is true that music is, or should be, a source of pleasure, a relax for our ears that suffer so much with all kinds of noises in our daily life. In this way, the author, interpreters, arrangers and musicians would be less intermediaries of fun products. It is important to point out that there are differences between the products that reach the media and that, above all, there are musicians who are dedicated to a work that is part of their lives, like music itself. is the case of Octavio Burnier, a 26 year old carioca, a life dedicated to music. Octavio is a person full of life, a professional conscious of the work that develops, a personality characteristically attentive to what happens around him. He is a musician who dedicates himself to his instrument, who cares about the clothing that will be given to his creation (and an excellent arranger) and never forgets to see how he can get closer to his audience and how the music market goes developing. In short, is a professional without a shadow of a doubt. He embraced the guitar since he was a boy and never abandoned him, with eyes and hearts open to hear and to create. Octavio has a style all his own, a way to talk to his guitar and create sounds. Brings the mark of the School Violonística of Luiz Bonfá by those who have deep admiration and of who absorbed a characteristic sonority, enriched that was by what springs from musicality of himself. Just as he watched Bonfá’s fingers roaming freely over the guitar’s arm, Octavio surrenders to the instrument by living every chord and every variation, and in that way he can record what he likes to do, with the freedom to do what he wants. Alas, it is worth remembering Polygram’s daring to launch this basically instrumental album, in the MPB Contemporary Band, a daring one that has as its weapon the talent of a musician who knows very well what he wants and what he does in the middle of this "INFERNAL DANCE "for a share of the musical market of this holy land of so many races, so many fights and so many carnivals.”…..~

Octávio Burnier, whose pseudonym today is Tavynho Bonfa (or was Octávio Burnier the pseudonym?), is a nephew of the time-honored guitarist, Luiz Bonfá, the composer of the Brazilian hit, Clarear, and the other half of the Brazilian Pop duo from the seventies, Burnier & Cartier.
Well, straight-ahead Radio Pop it never was, with all the Jazz and psychedelic Folk influences their music contained. And so unsurprisingly, Octávio Burnier’s solo album is something like a continuation of Burnier & Cartier at the dawning of the eighties.

Now in 1979 (when the album was recorded), there’s a strong influence from the dance-crazed late seventies, the effect of which is that Octávio’s solo album suffers a bit from that, those pieces have aged, in spite of the fact that the songwriting and the complex arrangements are still reminiscent of the music recorded in the context of Burnier & Cartier.
On the other hand, there’s an emphasis on Octávio’s prodigious guitar chops. There are a couple of solo excursions, where his great playing is featured. He’s clearly a guitar master of the first ranks.

So, perhaps this album lacks the consistency of the two Burnier & Cartier records, however, it’s a storehouse of great arrangements and most of all, a showcase piece of Octávio Burnier, the guitar master…..by…..yofriend ….~

Burnier & Cartier  "Burnier & Cartier"  1974 ultra rare & excellent Brazil Latin Funk,Soul,Samba Jazz,MPB,Bossa Soul…recommended…~
full vk

Sought-after Brazilian LP from 1974 that touches on MPB, soul, jazz, disco and boogie, reminiscent of Steely Dan in places. Deep guitar arrangements intertwine with layered vocals creating an airy, floating vibe.
Extremely expensive theses days, this one has been on our list for a while. As sampled by Andres on his ‘Sing About It’ collaboration with Kenny Dixon Junior aka Moodymann and on Kaytranada’s Janet Jackson flip, ‘Alright’. Championed by the likes of Jazzanova, Floating Points, Dego 2000 Black, Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Hunnee and co. The record features Arthur Verocai and Luis Bonfa (composer Octavio Burnier’s uncle) on production/arrangement…..~

Claudio Burnier and Octavia Cartier’s eponymous 1974 debut album has long been one of Brazilian music’s most sought-after LPs. While it helps that it has notably been sampled a few times - for cuts by such disparate artists as Andres, Kenny Dixon Jr and Janet Jackson - the album’s greatest calling card is the quality of its hazy, sun-kissed musical fusion. Taking samba and MPB as a foundation, the album’s 12 breezy tracks variously touch on jazz-funk, disco, boogie and Steely Dan style West Coast jazz-rock. The result is a string of memorable highlights, including the dreamy samba-disco of “Lembrando Ed Kleiger”, the “Peg”-goes-to-Rio flex of “Ai E Que Ta” and the folksy, string-drenched bliss of sublime closer “Marcante”…..~

A bit of history:
A duo formed by guitarists, singers and composers Burnier (Octávio Bonfá Burnier) and Cartier (Claudio Cartier), who met in 1968 at the meetings of the University Artistic Movement (MAU), beginning to compose in partnership two years later.
In 1974, the pair recorded their first LP, “Burnier & Cartier”, released by RCA.
He joined, together with Sônia Bonfá, the vocal trio Papo de Anjo, created exclusively for recordings of the soundtrack of the “Yellow Woodpecker Site” (TV Globo).
Participated in the Festival Apertura (TV Globo) in 1975, with the song “Ficar nus” (Burnier and Cartier), selected among the finalists who composed the LP that recorded the event.
The following year, she was hired by Odeon, at the suggestion of Milton Nascimento to the then artistic director of the label, Mariozinho Rocha, and recorded her second LP, “Burnier & Cartier”.
In 1977, the two instrumentalists were invited by Don Burrows to perform concerts in Australia, recorded live, generating the double album “Brazilian connection”, released by Pie Records, with the participation of Don Burrows Quintet, George Golla and The Sidney Strings Quartet. This album was released in the United States by First American Records, with the name of “Brazilian parrots”.
The pair played in the artistic scene from 1974 to 1978….~

Official Mr Bongo reissue of this classic, highly sought-after Brazilian LP from 1974 that touches on MPB, soul, jazz, disco and boogie. Recommended!…~

Duo guitarist composer of Rio who in the debut for RCA Victor devises a memorable MPB-Pop for compositional quality and arrangements. Octavio Burnier (aka Tavynho Bonfa) and Claudio Cartier who met at the university in the Movimento Artístico Universitário (MAU), surround themselves with a bevy of strategic collaborators in the creative act, among others besides the famous Luiz Bonfá, a relative of Octavio, remember Ivan Wrigg and Alberto Arantes, originating a commendable and exciting stylistic variety, true winning constant of their tests, two anthological LPs.

The following namesake of ‘76 for EMI Odeon, realized following the interest of Milton Nascimento, opted for a certain discontinuity of content and was produced by the well-known Milton Miranda with supervisor Mariozinho Rocha.
The appearance of Burnier & Cartier in a series of Australian concerts with Don Burrows Quintet (later on vinyl called Brazilian parrots, 1977) was an opportunity to show different pieces of their repertoire in a primitive folk acoustic dress that revives its peculiar brilliance, ending the artistic association…..by….Flight Sensations ….~

This record is the debut album of the group the two guitarists Cláudio Cartier and Octávio Burnier headed during the mid-seventies. The music is elegant international Pop sung in Portuguese (and Spanish on Lejos de mí), distinctly seventies in style, with Latin Jazz and unevitably Brazilian traces. I’m reminded of Gilbert O'Sullivan, Sergio Mendes, even Blood, Sweat & Tears.
But Burnier & Cartier aren’t copycats, the songs are all refined and unconsumed. Luiz Bonfá’s guitar may be heard on Lejos De Mi and Aventura Espacial.
Good songs, good arrangements, good performances, good sound, good album. Burnier & Cartier is a a classic example of Brazilian Popular Music…by…yofriend …~

Brazil, 1974. Burnier & Cartier release this self-titled suite of super-fly boogie-jazz and disco-soul. Many have loved this music since then, but relatively few have owned it, due to low print runs and high prices. Thankfully Brighton’s Mr Bongo have stepped in with the reissue duties, allowing everybody to groove to this Brazilian wonder. LP with a replica of the original artwork……~

Luiz Octavio Bonfá Burnier and Claudio Brandini Cartier are a duet of guitar-singers who released their first self-titled album Burnier & Cartier in 1974. They will follow two more albums in 1976 and 1977. The proposed musical register is a fusion between the Brazilian Samba-Pop and the spirit of Sunshine Pop (a subgenre of Pop music launched in California and characterized by a jovial attitude, vocal harmonies and a sophisticated production in the image of the group Mamas & Papas - Wikipedia source). Burnier & Cartier is therefore a light and sparkling album, honest and unpretentious, but sunny and generously produced. Note that Octavio Burnier’s uncle, Luiz Bonfa, plays guitar on a few tracks, and Paulo Moura adds some saxophone riffs to spice things up. Note that Luiz Octavio Bonfá Burnier is present on the album Aquarius (1976) from the group Aquarius…….~

The debut album by Burnier & Cartier from 1974 was out of print for a long time and accordingly extremely expensive (traded on Discogs around 400 EUR). Now it puts Mr. Bongo finally back in this country - so far appeared only in Japan in 2002, a reissue. The fact that this dozen fine songs between yacht rock and samba, disco and boogie is still so much in demand, is probably rather secondary to its actual quality. Rather, Burnier & Cartier are likely to remain in the public consciousness through prominent samples of acts such as Andres, Moodymann or Kaytranada and continue to be in demand. With its variety, the album is also a wonderful introduction to the Brazilian music scene of yesteryear: from MPB-Pop, which replaced the bossa nova as the most important genre in the 1960s, to luxuriously arranged ballads like “Lejos De Mi” placed jazz and soul sprinkles should be something for everyone. Winding acoustic guitars, lavish brass or string movements and irresistible vocal melodies fill every nook and cranny but are light and airy at the same time. Only the production sounds in my ears not so fresh, too clinically pure (which probably made for the comparisons with Steely Dan) and in places simply overloaded - with the then state-of-the-art radio songs could Burnier & Cartier with it but playfully keep up. In the reissue glut of these days, “Burnier & Cartier” is an almost overdue exception….by…Martin Silbermann….~

Mr Bongo keep the hits coming with a welcome reissue of Burnier & Cartier’s self-titled LP, which has soared to the top of many a wantlist after appearing in many a setlist and sample-jam. A gorgeous set which touches on MPB, soul, jazz, disco and boogie, the LP has been championed by the likes of Jazzanova, Floating Points and Hunnee while Andres and KDJ and Kaytranada have all slammed it into the MPC and made good use of these exquisiste grooves. The perfect marriage of breezy South American rhythms, sunkissed melodies and smooth vocals, the album is a testament to the songwriting talents of the duo and the production and arrangement expertise of Arthur Verocai and Luis Bonfa.
Remastered for 2018 and presented in replica artwork, this Brazilian fusion gem is finally available without securing a second mortgage. ……~
